Bjorn and Jennet, Baron and Baroness of Loch Salann

Greetings from Their Excellencies Bjorn and Jennet, Baron and Baroness of Loch Salann

4/28/12 -- Unto the populace of the Ancient and Glorious Barony of Loch Salann, we do send greetings,

Spring has arrived and with it the beginning of the campaign season. With events every week from now until fall, there should be ample opportunity for everyone to explore their individual interests within our Society and hopefully take advantage of the diverse activities to broaden their knowledge of the Middle Ages as we know it today. Above all things it is our wish that all of the travel involved with getting to and from the events takes place as safely as possible.

Crown Tournament provided all of the excitement and good times that were anticipated. It was our pleasure to be able to welcome the newest Heirs to the thrones of Artemisia, Prince Timmur Jochan and Princess Saige verch Laurens. With the experience and vitality they always exhibit it is certain the next several months will be entertaining and they will be able to provide the support and continuity expected from Their Royal Majesties on into the future.

We would like to express our appreciation to the event steward, Tighearnan mag Cinndeargain and his staff for the wonderful time we had at our Southern Collegium. The array of classes organized by Ashe’el Terestini provided opportunities for everyone attending to learn more about their special interests or explore other areas about which they have been curious. From the expert guest instructor to the fundraiser lunch provided by Cliodhna Ui Fearadhaigh, we could not have expected more.

The time we were able to spend with our friends in the Shire of Twae Linnes at their Spring Thaw celebration was greatly enjoyed as always. My two favorite things, archery and thrown weapons, were both on the agenda and arranged so that I could participate in both events. We were particularly impressed with the performance of one of our youth, m’Lord Jonathan de Spencer, as he proceeded to sweep the field and prevail over all competitors in the archery competition. Our thanks go out to all who contributed to the success of the event.

We are anxiously awaiting our next trip to the western side of the Kingdom to enjoy the hospitality of the Barony of Arn Hold when they host this year’s Kingdom Arts and Science Championships. Looking over the list of entrants, this promises to be a closely contested event and one we all should try to attend. Following closely on the calendar will be a trip to the east for us as we travel to the Riding of Redbridge to attend the Arabian Nights event. Towards the end of the month we intend to take on the Quest for Atlantis provided by our neighbors in the Barony of Gryphon’s Lair. As always we hope that as many members of our Barony will accompany us on our travels, participate in the activities, and support our neighboring groups as they have supported us at our events.

The beginning of May marks the beginning of the outdoors practice season for both the fighters and archers of the Barony. On May 2nd our weekly fighter practice will move to our regular site in Sugarhouse Park. While we have been blessed with a great indoor site all winter, thanks to Lord Tighernan mag Cinndeargain, everyone including him, will be happy to be outside again. A range cleanup / setup has been scheduled for our summer archery range on April 29th to allow our first outdoor practice to take place on May 3rd. We are extremely fortunate to have the same range in West Jordan that we have used for the last couple of years due to the generosity of Cindy Bishop, the site owner. We hope everyone will take advantage of these scheduled practices to hone their skills and enjoy the opportunity to socialize with other members of the Barony.
