Spring is just around the corner and with that brings Southern Collegium. Dust off those books and notes and teach a few classes. Baron Bjorn has asked that we focus this year’s Collegium around the Peer virtues listed in COPORA . For example:

History of music, heraldry, illumination, literature, calligraphy, dancing, period games, period art
Kingdom, SCA and local Laws
SCA and period courtesies and behavior encouraged by the SCA

Answers to questions like:
What would my persona wear?
How do i take care of my armor?
How to teach classes in the SCA, what kinds of classes are appropriate
How to welcome new people to the SCA, how to treat new people in the SCA
SCA and period court customs
Know how to create arms, the language and construction of heraldic devices (heraldry)
Fighting for the peanut gallery

Please respond off list if you are interested.

Thank you,

Greetings !!

I am working to finalize collection of the Information/Waiver forms for the upcoming Loch Salann Baronial Directory. I wish to express my appreciation to all those who have completed and turned in your forms.

There are still members whose information and waiver I have not yet received. Here is the link to the form on our website. http://www.loch-salann.org/pdf/SCA_Pub-Waiver.pdf Once you fill in the printed form, you can either give it to me in person or send it by mail to the address listed.

With the deadline for distribution fast approaching, and to make the process as simple as possible, I can also receive your information and waiver via email. I am currently sending out emails, so watch your inbox. If you do not hear from me within the next day or so, please email me directly.

As a reminder, although the Directory will be transmitted electronically, it will not be published or posted on any website. The distribution will be within the Kingdom of Artemisia and will be sent electronically via email as a PDF file. There will also be printed copies available.

The Directory will be ready for distribution early in February.

You have my sincere thanks for your efforts and assistance in this endeavor.

As the day of coronation approaches and the time for a kingdom fund raiser is at hand, Amanda de Spencer and Victoria of Lochlann humbly request the loan of your talents and generosity to create gift and/or services for a silent auction to be held on that day.

Greetings unto the Honorable and Glorious Populace of the Barony of Loch Salann,

Her Excellency Jennet and I have determined that it is appropriate that we select an individual from within our Barony to be recognized as the Bard of Loch Salann. Therefore, we request all those interested in this accolade to prepare themselves to entertain at our upcoming Defenders' Tournament, at which time we shall determine who will be our Bard for the next twelve months.

Historically, the word Bard ranged from a term of contempt among the Scots, who considered bards itinerant troublemakers, to one of great respect among the Welsh. The Celts limited the name Bard to one of an ancient Celtic order of poets who recited verses about the exploits, often legendary, of their tribes. For the Loch Salann Competition, the Bard should be one on whom the Baron or Baroness may call, as needed, to entertain the populace. Entertainment is not limited to poetry or recited verses, but can include musical performance, recitations, juggling, magic, or a combination of these skills.

Criteria ?
Ability to entertain the populace
If singing or reciting ? must be loud enough to be heard, and engage the audience.
If visual presentation ? must display showmanship.
Use of material that would have been appropriate for presentation in a medieval court.Includes period material, modern material in a period style, original material, or material taken from other sources.
Use of family friendly language.
Must be an individual who will be present at most of the Loch Salann Events.

Duties:
To entertain the populace at the whim of the Baronage.
To participate in pre court and dinner entertainment.
To assist the Master of the Hall in arranging for others to participate in pre court and dinner entertainment as requested.
To promote the bardic arts in Loch Salann.
To represent Loch Salann within Artemisia, participating in bardic events.
To be responsible to check out, hold and return any and all regalia of the Bard, in good condition, for the next competition.
If requested to do so, to run the next Bard of Loch Salann competition.
Encourage others to display their talents and perform at events in Loch Salann

Yours in Service to the Dream,
Baron Master Bjorn Hrafnsson

Greetings!

We have been asked to participate in an upcoming medieval themed boy scout evening. It will take place on February 23rd at 6:30 pm in North Salt Lake. He has some concerns about the safety of having combat in the space they will have, so they are mostly looking for one or two knights/armored combatants to come and talk about the SCA, knightly virtues as they pertain to the Boy Scouts, armor, etc for about 30 minutes. I have included a link that the scout people found, this is an Arrow of Light ceremony that was done by an SCA member in another kingdom and they are hoping to have something similar for this demo. http://chivalrytoday.com/arrow-light/

Please contact me if you would be able to attend!
In service,
Maysun
